Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Legacy DPC

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?

Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model where you pay a monthly membership fee (or program fee) directly to your doctor, bypassing insurance companies. This allows for longer appointments, better access, and a true doctor-patient relationship without the hassles of traditional insurance billing.

Do I still need health insurance?

Yes! DPC covers your primary care needs, but you should still have insurance for hospitalizations, specialists, imaging, surgeries, and emergency care. Many patients pair DPC with a high-deductible health plan or health-sharing ministry for catastrophic coverage.

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for DPC?

Currently, the IRS has specific rules about using HSA/FSA funds for DPC memberships. However, you can typically use these funds for specific services like labs, procedures, and prescriptions. The 90-Day Transformation Program may qualify as it's a defined treatment program. Always check with your HSA/FSA administrator to confirm.

What's the difference between the 90-Day Program and membership?

The 90-Day Transformation Program is a one-time, goal-focused program perfect for addressing a specific health concern. Membership (coming soon) is ongoing care for all your primary care needs. Many patients start with the 90-Day Program and then transition to membership for continued support.

Are visits really virtual? How does that work?

Yes! All appointments are currently conducted via secure video call. You'll receive a link to join the virtual visit from any device with a camera and internet connection. Virtual care is convenient, saves travel time, and research shows it's just as effective as in-person visits for most primary care needs.

What if I need labs or imaging?

I'll order any necessary labs or imaging, and you can get them done at any lab or imaging center you prefer. I can help you find affordable cash-pay options that are often cheaper than using insurance. Lab interpretation and discussion is included in your care.

Do you prescribe medications?

Yes! I can prescribe medications when needed and will send prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy. While my focus is on lifestyle medicine and reducing medication dependence when possible, I absolutely prescribe when it's medically necessary.

What states do you practice in?

I'm currently licensed to practice telemedicine in North Carolina. I'm working on expanding to additional states. If you're interested in care but live outside North Carolina, join the waitlist and I'll notify you when I'm licensed in your state.

What if I need to see a specialist?

I'll coordinate your care with specialists when needed. I can provide referrals, help you find affordable specialists, and stay in communication with them to ensure you get comprehensive care. Your DPC membership (or transformation program) covers my time coordinating this care.

Can I cancel anytime?

For membership (coming soon): Yes, you can cancel your membership at any time with 30 days notice. For the 90-Day Transformation Program: This is a committed program with a one-time fee, designed to give you the full 90 days of focused care and support.

Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?

Currently, I do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. However, some Medicare patients choose to pay out-of-pocket for DPC as a supplement to their Medicare coverage. You would still use your Medicare for specialists, hospitals, and other covered services.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

For the Transformation Program, consultations are typically available within 48 hours. For urgent concerns during your program, same-day virtual visits are often possible. Future membership tiers will include same-day scheduling guarantees.
